23. - 25. July 2009
The unpredictable weather – from temperatures of over 35° C to thunderstorms and downpours – could do nothing to prevent 120 selected street artists from all over the world and over 200,000 enthusiastic visitors to the European Capital of Culture from enjoying a unique celebration of the diversity of artistic expression, vitality and the love of improvisation. Das Unbeschriebene Blatt (The Blank Page) by the French Compagnie Luc Amoro is a joint project developed by Linz09 and Pflasterspektakel and its premiere on the Wednesday was, so to speak, the overture to the festival proper. This year, street art took over the newly laid-out Promenade in the form of an additional Pflasterspektakel zone that premiered as a “theatre stage” and meeting point for walking acts and stilt performers. To mark Linz’s year as European Capital of Culture, this year’s Pflasterspektakel performers and festival organisers from Europe were invited to Linz in the days leading up to the festival. The central aim of the laboratory was to discuss developments, perspectives and innovations in street art, to exchange information about new networks and subsidising structures and to inspire the participants to new artistic ideas by means of a process similar to a workshop. All the participants found this laboratory a highly rewarding experience with long-term benefits.
