July 19 – 21, 2001
In 15 years of the Pflasterspektakel, only four of the days were wet, as against 38 days of good weather. The 2001 festival added one more rainy day to the records, but was otherwise a tremendous success: it was in this year that the innovations introduced over the past few years really came good: the Spektakel Nightline became a stage for brilliant improvised performances, which had all the night owls bursting into rapturous applause. The mime acts, street theater performances and other inventive shows, that ran under the title of “Dreamworlds”, formed a poetically entrancing alternative to the spectacular shows on Landstraße. For the first time, well-known entertainers from eastern Europe were specifically invited, and this gave the festival a considerable artistic boost. Another first was an impressive performance with fire, starting late in the evening at 9.30 p.m. The success of these new items made it clear that in future tireless efforts would be necessary to ensure the constant development and improvement of the festival.
