July 22 – 24, 2004
The open air stage in the Landhaus arcade with its blues, melancholy sounds or rock beats and the Radio Oberösterreich stage on Taubenmarkt with its MC proved a huge hit with the audience in Linz as they played their music from on high. But the main part of the festival was more in keeping with traditional street entertainment, with the performers and spectators on the same level. Masters of comedy and clowning brought forth gales of laughter, jugglers’ balls and burning clubs flew through the air: in other words, it was just another day of typical Pflasterspektakel mayhem. The whole lot was once again rounded off with the street theater performances in the inner courtyards, which again featured top-class international performers and were taking place for the third time, and the Children’s Spectacle in Landhauspark organized by the Linz Kinderfreunde. This included a “make-believe area”, a stage presenting shows for children and the already legendary haystack where the kids can romp about, jump, make things or just have a rest. The highlight of each day was, besides the displays of fire artistry on the Hauptplatz and Tummelplatz, the samba parades through the city center from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., which had already become a tradition and provided the perfect transition from the day’s entertainment to the “Nightline” events in the circus tent on Arenaplatz.
