July 21 - 23, 2005This year, the Linz Pflasterspektakel was opened for the first time with a bang: a welcome parade featuring all the performers was a fitting curtain-raiser for this, the world’s leading festival of street art. Starting from Arenaplatz, fantastically costumed artistes strode by on stilts, jugglers’ clubs spun through the air, entire music groups marched along accompanied by clowns, conjurors and acrobats. Everyone met up on the Hauptplatz, where numerous professional photographers from Upper Austria took photos of what was probably the world’s biggest gathering of street entertainers. Immediately after this, the festival’s traditional activities got under way. This year, the tremendously successful and popular program of street theater in inner courtyards was given an extra musical dimension: in the Mozart courtyard, the north side of the Taubenmarkt courtyard and the courtyard inside the Ursulinenhof music lovers were able to enjoy music of the highest quality played without any means of electronic amplification and ranging from a cappella singing to melodies played on glasses. A further innovation was the possibility offered to generous visitors to change their larger banknotes into smaller ones or coins on the Hauptplatz. And not only that: The perfect weather attracted a record number of visitors to the 19th Linz Pflasterspektakel: 250,000 people came to join in this unique event! |
